For a small business, it may seem overwhelming when you have to deal with different accounting programs. Each program has its own advantages and disadvantages, so a small business may use an array of different programs to accomplish its bookkeeping goals. Converting files from Microsoft Money to QuickBooks Pro is a common problem that many small businesses face, but can be done easily with the right software.

Start Quicken and select the 'File' menu. Select 'Import' and find the Microsoft Money file you wish to convert.

Save the new file that opens. It should now be a .QDF file. This is the standard Quicken file format.

Open QuickBooks Pro. Go to the 'File' menu, select 'Utilities' and then click on 'Convert from Quicken.' Browse to find the .QDF file that you saved, and select it. Follow the remaining on-screen instructions to finish your file conversion.

I have an existing Quicken Windows file on an old Windows PC. I wish to migrate to Quicken Mac 2017. Can I start from scratch? Since I would be using some of the same bank and investment accounts, will this cause any data update issues? If so how should I proceed?

    You can always start from scratch. If you decide to migrate your data, you do need to convert. The mechanics are quite simple....coy data file over to Mac. Open data file with QM2017.     In your case, since you did not specify which version of QWiIn you are using, review all the prep and background info before.
    If you need to use an intermediary version, as mentioned on that page, instead of getting QW2010, you can try using QW2013 available from Quicken for FREE here: https://www.quicken.com/support/how-and-when-use-intermediate-version-convert-older-versions-quicken
    (that first page needs to be updated ;-) )
    NOTE: Be aware that at this time, it is very difficult to convert back from Mac to Windows, as there are many problems with the reverse conversion process.
    I also suggest that you make sure that Quicken 2017 for Mac will meet your needs, since it was re-written from the ground up (starting in 2010 with Quicken Essentials) and is not the same product as the Windows version, so there are some features that are still not there e.g. loan amortization, 2-line display, QuickMath, auto-backups, or are not as fully developed yet, e.g. Customized Reports, investment lot management and performance reports and stats (therefore some data may not carry over).     Note that there are many differences that are rather subtle, that are not necessarily identifiable via documentation, for example, the 12-month budget feature does not allow including transfers, including investment income, selecting specific accounts, or have rollover capability.
    If you find that QM2017 does not meet your needs, the alternative is to run Quicken for Windows in a virtual machine on your Mac. There are 5 popular products you can use: Parallels, VMWare Fusion, Oracle VirtualBox, Bootcamp or CrossOver. The first 4 require you to also buy a copy of Windows. The first 2 cost $50-80, the third and forth are free. CrossOver also costs about $50-$80 but does NOT require you to buy Windows.
    If you plan to keep your PC & Mac, you could also run Quicken on the PC and use remote access (several free options, e.g. NoMachine and Teamviewer) to access Quicken from your Mac (or even a tablet or phone) (see this great article for complete review of many options (most are free): http://machow2.com/rdp-for-mac/ ).

    I just tried to convert my Quicken Premier 2015 for Windows to Quicken 2017 on Mac. A total disaster. I lost all my files. I spend 2.75 hours with Quicken support to help me and the poor fellow admitted that Quicken for Mac is a deluxe version and cannot convert the files from my Quicken 2015 Premier. I spent another hour the next day trying to save my original files on Windows. They are now corrupt. Almost 17 years worth of data gone. Don't ever try to make the switch.

    The original files you have on QW 15 should still be accurate & not corrupt. Have you gone back into Qw15 to check on your data file?

    When you tried to carry out the conversion you would have first of all taken a copy of your Windows Quicken file and moved it to your Mac. Having done so your conversion to Quicken Mac failed BUT nothing you had done so far could possibly have had any effect on your Windows pc and the Quicken file in it.
    Are you sure that Quicken Windows will not open and run it's file?
