  5. Freeze Cell Excel For Mac 2018 Freeze

Hi AdBr1,

To narrow down the issue, please provide us the information below, then we will try to check if we can reproduce it with the same steps:

It’s simply a matter of which cell you select before you enable Freeze Panes as to the number of rows and columns you want to freeze. How to Unfreeze Panes Let’s say you receive a worksheet from somebody and they left frozen panes enabled in that file. Locking a row below the first row follows similar steps. First, select the cell in column A below the last row to freeze. Click the 'View' tab, click 'Freeze Panes,' then click 'Freeze Panes' from the drop-down menu. All rows above the selected cell will now freeze.

  1. How do you set the freeze panes? Freeze Panes/Freeze Top Row/Freeze First Column? Does the issue happens whatever you set the freeze panes?
  2. Does the issue happen to all workbooks? Create a new workbook, does the issue occur?
  3. Please go to Excel > About Excel to check the version. For example, 16.9. Please provide us the OS version as well.
  4. Please provide us a video to show “Data entered into the cell previously either disappears or the frozen section is from another area in the sheet”. This can let us know more clearly how the issue looks like. To protect your privacy, I have sent you a private message to collect them. Please access it via this link.
  5. When did the issue happen, was there anything changed before that?

In the meantime, to check if the issue is related to third-party, please try rebooting your system in safe boot to see the result: restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key. The white Apple logo appears on your display. Release the shift key when you see the logo window. If your startup disk encrypted with FileVault, you might be asked to log in twice: once to unlock the startup disk, and again to log in to the Finder. Launch Excel in Mac safe boot to see if the issue persists.

Thanks,

Microsoft Office For Mac

Rena

Hi Rena,

I have been using Freeze panes for years in Excel for Mac and this has just started in the last few weeks.

1. I select the cell where I want to keep the correct number of rows and columns and then go to View > Freeze Panes.

2. Yes, I have tried creating new workbooks and it reoccurs.

3. 16.9 (180116)

4. and 5. I'll get back to you asap.

Regards,

Adam

Hi AdBr1,

I tested by my side, with the same Excel version and OS version, but works well. I assume the issue may be related to a specific environment. Please first try the Mac safe boot in my last reply to see if the feature works well in that mode.

Please also provide me a sample problematic workbook, I will test this workbook by my side to see if I can reproduce the issue with it. You can upload it via private message also.

Thanks,

Rena
